About Us

Located at the heart of Columbus, Ohio, The Nomad Institute of Somali Studies and Policy Development is devoted to advancing the understanding and appreciation of Somali culture, history, and contemporary issues. Established with the vision of promoting and finding solutions to the community’s problems, our institute serves as a center for research, education, and advocacy, focusing on the Somali diaspora, their specific struggles and needs.

At the Nomad Institute, we believe that education is a catalyst for change. We empower individuals and communities through comprehensive research, policy advocacy, and active community participation. Our institute offers a platform for scholars, specialists, and community members to collaborate, exchange ideas, explore solutions, and drive progress within the Somali community and beyond.

We host workshops, seminars, symposia, and outreach programs that address vital issues such as social integration, gun and

drug-related violence, health, and public policy.

Our commitment to cultural preservation and awareness is reflected in our resources and events celebrating Somali heritage and promoting intercultural dialogue.

By partnering with local organizations, educational institutions, and community leaders, the Nomad Institute strives to build bridges that connect Somali youth and families with vital resources, opportunities, and support systems. Our mission is to address contemporary issues facing the Somali community, ensuring their voices are heard and influential in shaping their future.

Join us in our mission to enhance understanding through volunteering, attending events or contributing to initiatives. Together we can develop policies tailored to the needs and aspirations of the Somali community in Columbus and beyond and build a more informed, inclusive, and equitable society.
